Aluminium – a versatile light metal

Profiles for DIY and professional purposes

Shiny, silver aluminium has become a permanent feature of everyday life. We are confronted with its versatility almost everywhere. For example, it makes trains, cars, ships, and even airplanes lighter and therefore helps us to save fuel. It is the basis of countless industrial applications and is also notable for being helpful in the home and for our special DIY jobs.
This is all possible because aluminium displays a series of attractive properties. It is light yet strong and is easy to process mechanically. Above all, aluminium is non-toxic, rust-proof, has unlimited applications and is 100 % recyclable.
Our managing director, Mr Thomas Wilbs, recognized all these benefits approximately 30 years ago and developed a series of DIY and trade profiles out of aluminium, which is unique of its kind. This was consequently followed by flat bars, brackets with even and uneven branches, U-profiles, round bars, rectangular tubes and a variety of other profiles to meet the requirements of our many creative customers.
The aluminium DIY and trade range is exclusively anodized and supplied in lengths of 1 m and 2 m. The existing aluminium range has also been extended with a variety of different materials such as PVC, stainless steel, and brass.

Anodized aluminium

Standard profiles in anodized aluminium have a refined surface, which does not change even from damp or other environmental conditions. The anodized profiles come in the colours silver, brass, and partly in bronze.

Uncoated aluminium

Standard construction profiles in uncoated aluminium have a stronger profile cross-section than our standard profiles made of anodized aluminium and come in bigger sizes. Due to this substantially sturdier design, these profiles are ideally suited for use in the construction field. In damp conditions the profiles become mottled, but because they develop a natural protective layer from this, it does not impair their resistance or stability.

Solid brass

Standard profiles made of solid brass are suited to high mechanical loads and are thoroughly resistant to all chemicals. The effect of the air causes an oxide layer to form (patina). If this is undesirable, it can be removed with polishes.

Plastic (hard PVC)

Standard profiles made of plastic are the most reasonably priced version and are suitable for normal mechanical demands. Their surface does not change in damp conditions, and they are resistant to various chemicals.

Steel profiles range

Our steel profile range is treated with our new special surface finish and therefore already features a rust-proof primer that is totally ecological and enables them to be painted or welded immediately. Pre-treatment, such as priming, is not necessary. Our steel profiles can also be hot-galvanized after their usual pre-treatment with a suitable degreasing bath. Besides the usual 2 m lengths, we also supply the profiles in handy 1 m lengths. Flat bars, brackets, U-profiles, round bars, rectangular tubes, and a variety of other profiles feature in our range. In our range we differentiate between the following manufacturing processes:

Hot-rolled steel

Coarse iron, originally with scales, but free of scales due to our special surface treatment. Hot-rolled steel can only be produced at low dimensional stability with thick walls.

Cold-rolled steel

This is made out of steel sheet coils. Cold-rolled steel can only be produced at relatively high dimensional stability with thin wall thicknesses. Cold-rolled tubes are also welded.

Drawn steel

The profile is drawn again and is therefore given a high degree of precision. Thin wall thicknesses are possible but with sharp edges inside and outside. There is a slight colour difference between drawn steel (untreated steel): untreated material is darker than rolled steel.

Galvanized steel

It is difficult to imagine many application areas today without steel. As a material for car bodies or bridges as well as in architecture (buildings, fences, etc.), steel has a long tradition and is often unbeatable with regard to its costeffectiveness and its mechanical and physical properties.
The life span of steel, however, depends crucially on corrosion protection – without this protection, steel will rust. “Galvanizing” is the answer to this problem. A hot galvanized car body is deemed a quality plus e. g. in vehicle construction. The zinc coating on steel profiles extends their life span by decades. Galvanizing involves dipping the steel in molten zinc, where it makes a firm bond with it.

Stainless steel

Stainless steel profiles are suited to high mechanical loads and are thoroughly resistant to all chemicals. They are often used in the food industry, in hospitals, and swimming pools, etc.
